Map Content Complaints

Our approach
Waylocate hosts public campus and facility maps when a Campus Publisher chooses to publish them. We want disputes resolved cooperatively whenever possible. If you represent a campus, hospital, building owner, or other rights holder and do not want specific map content hosted on Waylocate, contact us using the procedures below. We review good-faith requests promptly and may remove or disable access to content while we investigate.
When to contact us
You may use this process if you believe map content on waylocate.com:
- Infringes your copyright in floor plans, drawings, or other materials
- Was published without authorization by someone who is not your agent
- Misidentifies your property or campus
- Should no longer be public for legitimate operational or legal reasons
If you are the Campus Publisher
If your organization is the Campus Publisher and still has publishing access, you may also unpublish maps directly through your campus administrator. We can still help if you cannot access the account or need a faster takedown.
General content removal request
Email [email protected] with the subject line "Waylocate content complaint".
Include:
- Your name, role, and organization (if applicable)
- Contact email and phone
- The Waylocate URL(s) involved (for example, waylocate.com/your-campus)
- A clear description of the content and why you want it removed
- Enough information for us to verify you are authorized to act for the campus or rights holder
Review timeline
We may ask for additional verification. We aim to acknowledge complaints within a few business days and to take appropriate action (which may include removal, disabling CDN delivery, or contacting the Campus Publisher) after review.
Copyright complaints (DMCA)
The Digital Millennium Copyright Act provides limited liability protection for online service providers that host material at the direction of users. To qualify for that protection, a service provider must designate an agent to receive notifications of claimed infringement, publish the agent's contact information on its website, and register the same information with the U.S. Copyright Office. The Copyright Office maintains a public directory at copyright.gov/dmca-directory.
Registering a designated agent is not required to operate Waylocate or to accept general content complaints. Registration is required if we want the statutory safe harbor from monetary damages for copyright claims relating to user-published material. We will remove or disable access to challenged material in response to valid notices and good-faith complaints regardless of safe harbor status.
When a copyright owner's work is being infringed on Waylocate, the owner or an authorized agent may send a notification of claimed infringement (a "takedown notice") to our designated agent below. For a takedown notice to be legally effective under 17 U.S.C. Section 512, it must be provided in writing and include substantially the following:
- A physical or electronic signature of a person authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed
- Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed, or, if multiple works at a single site are covered by one notice, a representative list of such works at that site
- Identification of the material that is claimed to be infringing or to be the subject of infringing activity and that is to be removed or disabled, and information reasonably sufficient to permit us to locate the material (include Waylocate URL(s))
- Information reasonably sufficient to permit us to contact the complaining party, such as an address, telephone number, and, if available, an email address
- A statement that the complaining party has a good faith belief that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law
- A statement that the information in the notification is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, that the complaining party is authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed
After a valid notice
Upon receipt of a valid takedown notice, we will respond expeditiously to remove or disable access to the material that is claimed to be infringing or to be the subject of infringing activity. We may notify the Campus Publisher and provide a copy of the notice. If material was removed by mistake or misidentification, the publisher may submit a counter-notification as permitted by 17 U.S.C. Section 512(g).
Repeat infringement
We may terminate or suspend publishing access for Campus Publishers who repeatedly submit or authorize infringing content after appropriate notice.
Designated agent
Waylocate Attn: DMCA Agent Stony Brook, New York, USA [email protected]
We publish this contact information on waylocate.com as required for the DMCA designated agent process. We will register this designated agent with the U.S. Copyright Office online directory when we elect to rely on DMCA safe harbor protection for hosted campus map content.
Misuse of this process
Submitting false or bad-faith complaints may expose you to liability. Please provide accurate information and act only if you are authorized to do so.
